2006-07 TOURNAMENTS
Tournaments hosted by our club
Each year, we host several tournaments.
This is a fund raiser for our Club. We have used number of sites, recently
they have been West Salem High School and Willamette University. The
Oregon Heritage Classic is a tourney that was started several years ago and has
been on hold for past two years. The idea behind this tourney was to host
a major volleyball event in our region.

Power League
Columbia Empire Volleyball Association
(our Region) hosts a Power League that consists of teams from our region and small
percentage from outside our region. This league is a series
of 5 tournaments that begin with a qualifying tournament in January and ending with the
a regional tournament. Go directly to their web page to receive updated
information and results on Power League. Jim Kirby who has coaches many
successful teams and is currently coaching the top Rose City Team was
responsible for introducing this league to our region number of years ago (a
little history).
Regional Tournaments
Clubs in our region can request to host
a tournament. These tournaments are sanctioned by the Region and are

Inter-Regional Tournaments
These are tournaments that are sanctioned by the
regions designed to attract teams from various regions as well as college
recruiters. The most popular
is the Las Vegas Invitational. Then there are number of others such as the
Emerald City Classic in Seattle, WA, Cal Finals in Sacramento, CA, as well as
the Adidas President's Day tourney in Kent area in Washington.

National Qualifiers and Junior Olympic
Tournament
These are tournaments that are sanctioned and
overseen by our National Governing Body, USA Volleyball. They are National
Qualifiers and teams must win or finish in the top few spots in order to receive
their bid to the Junior Olympic (JOs) tournament. The JOs are held once a
year in various cities in U.S.
Some of the Qualifiers are Colorado Crossroads National Qualifier in Denver, CO; Pacific
Northwest Qualifier in Spokane/Cheney, WA; Far Western Qualifier in Reno,
NV, and Lone Star Qualifier in Austin, TX. Purpose for these tournaments
are exposure to elite level volleyball and exposure to college recruiters.
